Work experience

 

PHOTOGRAPHER

​2010 - present

 

Karen's freelance photography involves portraiture, events, commercial assignments and fine art.  She works in the studio and on location.  Her experiences include backpacking 50 miles in the New Mexico backcountry and capturing the hi-tech energy of world class cities such as New York and London.  Her images have been selected for use on a charity donation check, included in books as well as on various websites, facebook and social media and souvenir DVD's.  Collaborations with artists in different media are welcome and past projects have included a collaboration for a handmade book project with a graphic designer.  Her images have been used in multiple books for client projects.  Completing a B.F.A. in Photography in May of 2014 provided her with formal training in photography (i.e. 120mm, Large Format Film developing and printing) as well as updates on current software technology (Photoshop, Lightroom, etc.), marketing trends and website design.  Photography is a lifelong passion which is evident in the quality of work she produces.

Curatorial projects have included Janet Hammond's Solo Exhibition at Jenner's Pond (one of the largest single shows of Hammond's work including over 35 pieces from multiple series; West Grove, PA - Spring 2014); Janet Hammond solo show at The Gallery at H.A.C.C. (Harrisburg Area Community College, Lancaster, PA - Fall 2013) and numerous group shows for The Studio at Greenlawn (Downingtown, PA) which hosted exhibitions by different artists working in various mediums.

Along with coordinating group artists' exhibitions, Karen has coordinated various training courses, ceremonies and staff development for her volunteer work.  Experiences have included speaking engagements for both large and small groups, setting up event venues, recruiting staff, marketing, establishing a budget and finalizing close-out reports.

Professional training in HTML Code, CSS and web design has provided a solid base for designing and maintaining multiple commercial and non-profit websites.

She completed a college-required internship with a veteran commercial and fine art Photographer whose experience includes studio and location work; an international client base; and travel to over 40 countries.

Starting with a young company as a receptionist after she left college allowed her to perform many roles as the company grew.  Her job responisbilities ranged from AR to secretary to the President to traffice manager for high value equipment shipping to companies in various parts of the world.

 

VOLUNTEER WORK

Extensive volunteer work has included many years working with youth in the U.S. and during a trip abroad; serving as secretary of the board for her homeowner's association; helping with annual community projects feeding those in need; monitoring overnight women's shelters; and serving in multiple positions in creative fields (as noted below).
